Meet Catherine

Why I am qualified:

I have real world experiences, been challenged personally and professionally, and I am passionate about our community and Utah. During my career, I led large teams, worked on multiple business projects, tackled complex issues including international restructuring, business divestitures, and Initial Public Offerings and worked directly with a diverse and ever changing workforce throughout the world. I also volunteer for organizations I am passionate about.

For the last 18 years we have witnessed extraordinary growth, particularly in and around Herriman. My family is directly impacted by increased housing costs, increasing costs for higher education, traffic congestion, poor air quality and mental health, having lost our son Chandler to suicide in June 2017.

I'll put in the time and effort to make a difference for our community.

I’m a Utahn, your neighbor, and with your support, our Representative in the Utah Legislature.

Professional Experience:

My professional experience in business and tax will lend a voice for our citizens in any tax reform legislation proposed. During my 20+ years in tax, accounting and business management, I've seen first hand and I value how entrepreneurs and small business drive innovation, opportunities and jobs here in Utah.

I worked for companies in Utah including Skullcandy, Goal Zero, Fusion-io, FranklinCovey. and Caldera. Early in my career, I worked for the Internal Revenue Service and James &Co. Business Advisors & CPAs.

Education:

I graduated from Weber State University in Accounting and continued my education in the University of Nevada, Reno's Master of Professional Accountancy program with an emphasis on Taxation. As part of continuing professional education, I took classes as a Valuation Analyst through the National Association of Certified Valuators and Analysts (NAVCA) and as an Equity Professional through Santa Clara University.

Where I was raised:

I was born and raised in Bountiful, Utah. My parents' values and their examples influenced my attitudes toward education, acceptance and understanding of others, service, and work ethic.

My father, Jed, was a career Union Pacific Railroad employee and a Korean War Veteran. My mother, Carol, was the Nursing Supervisor at the Davis County Mental Health Clinic and received her PhD in Marriage and Family Counseling from Brigham Young University.

My Family:

My husband, Kurt, and I have married for over 20 years. We selected Herriman as our home in 2002. Our blended family includes 5 children, one cat, and our dog, Lizzie the Pug.

I want our children and grandchildren to take advantage of and enjoy the many opportunities and benefits of living in Utah.

Volunteerism:

I've advocated for and supported mental health initiatives including Suicide Awareness and Prevention programs at the local and state level working with Herriman City, local schools, the Jordan School District, mental health and public health providers.

I volunteer for several organizations including the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention, the Utah Suicide Prevention Coalition, the Utah State Board of Education Instructional Materials Review Committee, and Healthy Herriman.

Hobbies and Activities:

Kurt and I enjoy spending time in the outdoors, skiing, hiking, fishing, relaxing at our summer cabin in Summit County, traveling throughout the world, attending events throughout Utah including the Utah Air Show at Hill Air Force Base and local car shows and spending time with family. I also enjoy genealogy and family history. I am very proud of my family heritage.
